Our Flat..what a hoot! Or is that hot!Our flat was set aside for teachers who taught at Yongxing Middle School. So it was normal, with a kitchen big enough to fit more than one person...a nice bathroom and airconditioning. The months got hotter and hotter and we walked and walked so the cold marble floors were a relief to our tired feet after a big day at school. It was still Chinese though...everything was HARD! hard chairs (no lounge chairs) and hard bed, hard floors and hard work all round but we had such fun. My bed was the 'loungechair'...we would make it as soft as possible and set up one of the laptops and five little females all in a row would sit and watch a movie once a week. Each Friday we would head down to 'Francs Coffee' for some western treats! We enjoyed the discovery of the new culture. We had the teachers over one night and they taught us how to make 'joudzi'. We were invited by Maggie (Ling Ping) to her small village outside Fuyang and had an excursion into a bamboo mountain. We took mini excursions to the local parks...WE ALL LOST WEIGHT. |
